Our Rich History

The Zanzibar Library Services Board was established in 1963, shortly after the revolution, with the mission to provide accessible knowledge resources to all citizens. Our first library opened in Stone Town with just 1,200 books.

Over the decades, we've grown to become the premier library network in Zanzibar, with five branches serving over 50,000 active members. Our collection now boasts more than 50,000 physical books and 20,000 digital resources.
